What a DIN is
A DIN is an 8-digit number allotted by the Ministry of Corporate Affairs to anyone who is or wants to be a director, under Sections 152–159 of the Companies Act, 2013. It’s for life — one person can hold only one. Designated partners of LLPs use a DIN too.
New DINs are allotted through form DIR-3, or through SPICe+ for the first directors of a new company. MCA approved 59,978 DINs in September 2026 alone.
