CNC Machine Manufacturers in India: an overview
Bengaluru is the oldest centre of machine tool building in India. HMT, founded in 1953, still runs complexes at Bangalore, Pinjore, Kalamassery, Hyderabad and Ajmer. Bharat Fritz Werner began in 1961 in collaboration with Germany's Fritz Werner and is registered in the Peenya industrial area. The Ace Micromatic group traces its grinding business to 1973; its Ace Designers turning-centre plants are at Peenya and Nelamangala, while Micromatic Grinding Technologies has three plants in Ghaziabad and a fourth at Dobaspet near Bengaluru.
Gujarat is the second large cluster. Jyoti CNC Automation was incorporated in 1989, assembles its machines at its Rajkot plant, reports an installed base of more than 1,40,000 machines in over 60 countries and owns the French machine builder Huron. Macpower CNC Machines, set up in 2003, works from a plot in GIDC Metoda near Rajkot and describes a 4 lakh sq ft facility. Batliboi opened its manufacturing division at Udhna in Surat in 1961, and Sahajanand Laser Technology has built laser machines in Gandhinagar since 1989.
Other builders came from neighbouring industries. LMW, founded in 1962 to make spinning machinery in Coimbatore, later added a CNC machine tool division. Lokesh Machines started operations in Hyderabad in 1985 and lists plants at Bonthapally and Medchal in Telangana. Foreign groups also build here: Yamazaki Mazak counts the Ranjangaon MIDC plant near Pune among its 11 factories worldwide. The BIS Omnibus Technical Regulation for machinery safety, notified in 2024 and since amended and deferred, asks machine makers to register their products with BIS.
