Pharmaceutical Companies in Mumbai: an overview
Mumbai is the corporate base for several of India's largest drugmakers. Going by FY2026 consolidated revenue from operations in audited exchange filings, three of the six largest listed India-headquartered drugmakers run their head offices in the city: Sun Pharmaceutical Industries (about ₹58,462 crore), Cipla (about ₹28,163 crore) and Lupin (about ₹27,958 crore). Glenmark, seventh on the same measure at about ₹16,983 crore, is also based here, along with mid-sized groups such as Alkem, Ipca and Ajanta.
Most head offices sit in one of two areas. The western suburbs near the Western Express Highway include Sun in Goregaon East, Lupin in Santacruz East, Glenmark, Ajanta and Alivus in Andheri East, and FDC and Marksans in Oshiwara. The island city and Bandra Kurla Complex are home to Cipla and Alkem in Lower Parel, JB Chemicals on Senapati Bapat Marg, and Wockhardt and Pfizer in BKC.
The companies cover very different parts of the industry: branded formulations for the Indian market (Alkem, Ipca, Ajanta, FDC, Indoco), export-focused generics (Lupin, Marksans), bulk drugs (Aarti Drugs, Alivus) and contract manufacturing (Piramal Pharma). Listed Indian arms of Pfizer, GSK and Sanofi are also based in Mumbai. A company's registered office can be in a different place from where it is run: Sun is registered in Vadodara, Wockhardt in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Alivus in Solapur, but each has its head office in Mumbai.
