Switch Manufacturers in India: an overview
Several of India's switch brands began as family businesses. Anchor commissioned a wiring-device factory at Valsad in 1971; Panasonic bought an 80% stake in 2007, and the company added a Haridwar plant for wiring devices and switchgear in 2016. PM Cona traces its brand to 1968; it opened a factory in Silvassa in 1990 and its largest one, in Haridwar, in 2006, and now lists six factories. Goldmedal, founded in Vijayawada in 1979 and now based in Mumbai, set up a unit for modular switches at Vasai in 2006.
Cable and appliance makers produce a large share of the market. Havells' plant at Baddi in Himachal Pradesh, set up in 2004 on 21,254 sq m, makes switches and MCBs. Polycab reports 26 manufacturing facilities, and its fast-moving electrical goods, including switches, made up 7% of turnover in FY2025-26. Finolex Cables lists switches among the electrical products made at its Pune, Goa and Roorkee sites, a segment worth 4% of its turnover. Fybros moved into switches in 1994 and has manufacturing units at Bhiwadi.
Industrial switches form a separate segment. Lauritz Knudsen Electrical & Automation, now part of Schneider Electric India, runs the Ahmednagar Switchgear Works, which opened in 1984, covers 1.58 million sq m and employs close to 3,000 people; wiring devices are made there alongside contactors, starters and busbar trunking. Salzer Electronics was set up in Coimbatore in 1985 with a German collaboration to make cam-operated rotary switches, and its range now runs from 6 A to 400 A, alongside load-break isolators and other switchgear.
