Manufacturing Companies in Hyderabad: an overview
Hyderabad's heavy industry began with the public sector. BHEL's Heavy Power Equipment Plant in the city was set up in 1965, one of the company's first three plants, and makes steam turbines and generators for captive and industrial power. Bharat Dynamics, incorporated in 1970 under the Ministry of Defence, runs production units at Kanchanbagh and at Bhanur, west of the city. Mishra Dhatu Nigam, which makes special alloys, has its plant and registered office at Kanchanbagh. Bharat Electronics also counts Hyderabad among its manufacturing units.
Private aerospace and defence suppliers have grown up around these customers. MTAR Technologies started in 1969 as a partnership in Hyderabad and now runs more than ten manufacturing units within about 25 km, including facilities in the Adibatla SEZ. Apollo Micro Systems has units at IDA Mallapur, Adibatla and the Hardware Park at Mamidipally. Tata Advanced Systems has its registered office at the Hardware Park in Raviryala, Maheshwaram, and Cyient DLM is based in the GMR Aerospace & Industrial Park at Shamshabad. Azad Engineering makes turbine and aerospace parts at IDA Jeedimetla.
Industrial estates to the north-west and south of the city hold much of the rest. Pennar Industries opened its first plant at Isnapur in 1988 and now also runs units at Patancheru. Kirby Building Systems makes pre-engineered steel buildings at IDA Phase III, Pashamylaram, in Sangareddy district. Premier Energies makes solar cells and modules at E-City (Fab City) in Maheshwaram and at Annaram near Gummadidala. Drugs and vaccines add another layer: Gland Pharma's 600,000 sq ft injectables plant is at Dundigal, and Bharat Biotech's registered office and plant are in Genome Valley at Shameerpet.
