Pharma Companies in Indore: an overview
Indore's pharmaceutical cluster sits mostly outside the city. Pithampur, an industrial town in Dhar district roughly 30 km from Indore, holds most of the large formulation and API plants. Its special economic zone, SEZ Indore, hosts three Lupin units that make tablets, capsules and suspensions. Ipca has a plant in the SEZ's pharma zone and another in the regular Pithampur industrial area. Unichem has run an API unit in Pithampur since it bought the site in 2005.
Several national drugmakers also list plants simply as 'Indore'. Glenmark's Indore facility started in 2009 and makes oral solids, semi-solids and immunosuppressants. Alkem names Indore as one of its main Indian manufacturing bases, alongside Daman, Baddi and Sikkim. Viatris counts Indore among its four oral solid dosage sites in India. Ipca has made APIs and intermediates at Pologround in Indore since 1994.
There is also a group of locally run companies. Alpa Laboratories has made medicines at Pigdamber, near Indore, since 1967. Symbiotec Pharmalab makes corticosteroid APIs at Rau and runs a second unit in the Pithampur SEZ. Zenith Drugs, founded in 2000, makes oral and topical formulations at a plant on Dhar Road. Syncom Formulations runs a Pithampur plant from its corporate office in Indore.
