Pharma Companies in Pune: an overview
Vaccines and biologics account for much of Pune's pharmaceutical activity. Serum Institute of India, based in Hadapsar, describes itself as a maker of vaccines and immuno-biologicals; its products include measles, rubella, DTP, hepatitis B and influenza vaccines and the HPV vaccine Cervavac. Emcure Pharmaceuticals, listed on NSE and BSE, has its registered office and a manufacturing plant in the IT-BT Park at Hinjawadi. Gennova Biopharmaceuticals, which develops biologics and vaccines, gives the same Hinjawadi address as its registered office.
Much of this work happens in industrial estates on the edge of the city. Enzene has its corporate office in Bhosari MIDC and a biologics development and manufacturing site in the Chakan Industrial Area. Alkem Laboratories, Enzene's parent, informed the exchanges in February 2026 that the US FDA was inspecting the Chakan plant. At Kurkumbh MIDC in Daund taluka, Cipla operates three units and reported US FDA inspections there in 2024, while Alivus Life Sciences, formerly Glenmark Life Sciences, makes APIs at one of its four Indian sites.
Several companies headquartered elsewhere use Pune for research, biologics and vaccines. Mumbai-based Lupin runs a biosimilars facility at Ghotawade in Mulshi taluka, which the US FDA inspected in 2024 and again in 2025. Hikal develops processes and runs kilo labs in the International Biotech Park at Hinjewadi, where Centaur also has a site. Bharat Biotech lists Pune among its four vaccine manufacturing locations, and Haffkine Bio-Pharmaceutical Corporation, a Maharashtra government company, makes antisera at Pimpri, where its unit keeps about 850 equines.
