Pharma Companies in Visakhapatnam: an overview
Most of the drug plants around Visakhapatnam sit in Jawaharlal Nehru Pharma City at Parawada. The 2,400-acre park was developed by Visakha Pharmacity Limited, a joint venture of the Ramky Group and the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, and the developer says it serves more than 104 industries. A 677-acre part of the park received approval as a special economic zone in 2006. Company addresses now place Parawada mandal in Anakapalli district.
Many of the units in the park make active pharmaceutical ingredients. Lupin's API plant is on Plot 130, Aragen runs a manufacturing campus on Plot 94, and Smilax Laboratories has its Unit IV in the park. Vasudha Pharma Chem has three units in the park, the first opened in 2007, and its Unit V, opened in 2019, is in the APSEZ at Atchutapuram. Eisai's drug substance plant, which makes generic and new molecules, is in the SEZ section. Laurus Labs gives its registered office as Laurus Enclave in Parawada mandal.
Some large sites lie outside the park. Divi's Unit 2 at Chippada in Bheemunipatnam mandal covers 500 acres with 40 production blocks, and the company calls it the world's largest API manufacturing facility. Hetero runs a chemical complex for APIs at Nakkapally. Gland Pharma has two API units in Visakhapatnam with a combined capacity of 11,000 kg a year, plus an oncology plant in an SEZ in the city. Biocon counts Visakhapatnam among its manufacturing locations, and Ipca lists an API unit at Kasimkota run by Krebs Biochemicals.
