Pharmaceutical Companies in Delhi: an overview
Delhi's drug companies mostly keep their head offices in the city and make medicines in neighbouring states. Mankind Pharma, incorporated in 1991, has both its registered and corporate offices in the Okhla Industrial Estate Phase III. Panacea Biotec was set up in 1984 as Panacea Drugs and listed in 1995. It runs its corporate office from the Mohan Co-operative Industrial Estate on Mathura Road, and makes formulations at Baddi and vaccines at Lalru in Punjab and at Baddi.
Industrial estates in other states host many of the plants. Medicamen Biotech, established in 1993, has its office in Nehru Place and plants at Bhiwadi and Haridwar, and the group also lists an API plant at Dahej. Pharma Synth Formulations, active since 1984, has its registered office in the Jhilmil Industrial Area and a plant in the SIDCUL estate at Haridwar. Mascot Health Series works from Vikaspuri with a unit at SIDCUL Haridwar. Akums, a contract manufacturer that reports more than 4,100 commercialised formulations, has its corporate office in the Mangolpuri Industrial Area.
Traditional medicine has deep roots here. Hamdard started in 1906 as Hamdard Dawakhana, a small Unani clinic in Old Delhi, and was later turned into a waqf, or trust. AIMIL Pharmaceuticals, an Ayurveda company, has worked since 1984 and has its registered office in Ranjeet Nagar, Patel Nagar. Smaller firms fill out the list: Arbro Pharmaceuticals, a contract manufacturer founded in 1985 in the Kirti Nagar Industrial Area; Systopic Laboratories, operating since 1984 from Ranjit Nagar; and Synokem Pharmaceuticals in Paschim Vihar.
