Product Based Companies in Chennai: an overview
Chennai's best-known software product firms grew up in the city rather than arriving as branch offices. Zoho, founded in 1996, has its headquarters at Estancia IT Park in Vallancheri, on GST Road in Chengalpattu district. Freshworks' Indian company was incorporated in Chennai in 2010 and is registered at Global Infocity Park in Perungudi, though the parent is now based in San Mateo. Kissflow traces its roots to OrangeScape, set up in 2003, and launched the Kissflow product at Google I/O in 2012. Chargebee, founded in 2011, has its Chennai office in Littlewood Tower at Ramanujan IT Park, Taramani.
Most of these companies sit in a compact stretch of south Chennai. Taramani hosts Ramco Systems' corporate office and R&D centre on Sardar Patel Road, Agilysys at Ramanujan Intellion Park and Uniphore at the IIT Madras Research Park. Several firms work from the Thiru Vi Ka (SIDCO) industrial estate at Guindy: Facilio from Indiqube Ocean Bay, M2P Fintech from Olympia Quest and Saama from Olympia Technology Park. Further down Old Mahabalipuram Road, Intellect Design Arena has its corporate office at SIPCOT IT Park in Siruseri.
The list mixes listed and private firms, and Indian and foreign owners. Ramco and Intellect trade on NSE and BSE, Freshworks and Agilysys on NASDAQ. Uniphore, founded in 2008, began in Chennai and is now headquartered in Palo Alto. M2P Fintech was founded in 2014, and Facilio's founders started it in 2017. Some product teams belong to foreign groups: Walmart Global Tech names Chennai among its technology hubs, and Chicago-based FourKites runs its India office at DLF CyberCity in Ramapuram. Qube Cinema, whose predecessor began in 1986 as an audio post-production firm, keeps its India office in Mylapore.
