Product Based Companies in India: an overview
India's software product companies include some long-established firms that never took outside money. Zoho, whose company timeline begins in 1996, now runs from its Estancia campus in Chennai, and Tally Solutions, maker of the accounting software of the same name, keeps its head office on Hosur Main Road in Bengaluru. Zerodha, the online broker that builds its own trading platforms, also states that it is based in Bengaluru.
A second group was founded in India and later added headquarters abroad while keeping large teams at home. Postman is headquartered in San Francisco but notes that it was founded in Bangalore, where it still has an office in Indiranagar. CleverTap lists San Francisco alongside its Mumbai office, and BrowserStack, founded in 2011, already had offices in Mumbai, Dublin and San Francisco by 2018. Freshworks, listed on Nasdaq, runs its Indian business through a company registered in Tamil Nadu in 2010.
Global software groups also build products from India. Microsoft set up its India Development Center in Hyderabad in 1998 and describes it as one of its largest R&D centres outside Redmond, with further sites in Bengaluru and Noida. Google lists three offices in Bengaluru, Atlassian has a Bengaluru office alongside its Sydney headquarters, and Salesforce has a large site in Hyderabad. Several Indian product firms, including Newgen Software, Intellect Design Arena, Ramco Systems, Info Edge and Swiggy, are listed on the National Stock Exchange.
