IT Companies in Chennai: an overview
Most of Chennai's software industry is in the south of the city. It runs along Rajiv Gandhi Salai, the old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR), which the state calls the IT Expressway, and along GST Road. TIDEL Park in Taramani sits near the northern end of this belt. It is a 15-storey building with about 12.8 lakh sq ft of office space, and TIDEL describes it as Tamil Nadu's first dedicated technology workspace. Taramani also has the Ramanujan IT City campus, where LatentView Analytics is registered and Chargebee has its Chennai office.
Further south, ELCOT's special economic zone at Sholinganallur covers about 377 acres beside the IT Expressway. State records show 259 acres leased to Wipro, HCL Technologies, Satyam (now Tech Mahindra), Ford, Cognizant and Sutherland. They also list five operating campuses with roughly 109 lakh sq ft of built space and about 67,000 employees. The SIPCOT IT Park at Siruseri, further down the corridor, houses Intellect Design Arena's corporate office and Aspire Systems' Chennai campus.
Chennai is also home to many product companies. Zoho has its campus at Estancia IT Park on GST Road, and Ramco Systems has its corporate office and R&D centre in Taramani. Freshworks, Kissflow and Chargebee run large Chennai teams from offices around Perungudi and Taramani. Prodapt is headquartered in Guindy. Outside the city, the state-run TIDEL Neo programme is building smaller IT parks in district towns such as Vellore.
