IT Companies in Kochi: an overview
Most of Kochi's IT employers are in Kakkanad, on the city's eastern side, where the state-owned Infopark runs its main campus. Infoparks Kerala dates from 2004 and is owned by the Kerala government. Its first site was 100 acres of KINFRA land in Kakkanad, and its first building was Thapasya, a converted standard design factory. Infopark now spans 323 acres across Kochi and smaller satellite campuses at Cherthala and Koratty in Thrissur district, and much of that land is a Special Economic Zone.
Infopark says its campuses host more than 582 companies and over 70,000 IT professionals, with about 9.2 million sq ft of built-up space. Private developers build much of that space under a co-development model, in buildings such as Athulya and Lulu IT Tower. In Infopark's own company directory, about 260 firms are listed at Kochi Phase 1 and about 130 at Phase 2, a campus on the Kadambra river. The park has also signed an agreement for a third phase.
The tenant base mixes several kinds of firm. Global IT services groups such as TCS, Wipro, Cognizant and UST sit next to engineering-services firms, SaaS vendors and Kerala-grown companies. Some firms are headquartered at Infopark itself, ThinkPalm among them. Others, such as IBS Software and QBurst, are based in Thiruvananthapuram's Technopark and run delivery teams in Kochi. Foreign product companies, including the UK payroll provider Zellis and US-based SurveySparrow, also have Kochi offices.
