Top Companies in Chennai: an overview
Many of Chennai's largest companies belong to family groups that have been run from the city for generations. Murugappa group firms are spread between Parrys and Guindy: Carborundum Universal, incorporated in 1954, is registered at Dare House on N.S.C. Bose Road, while Cholamandalam Investment and Finance is at Chola Crest in the Thiru-Vi-Ka Industrial Estate. TVS group companies include TVS Motor, registered on Khader Nawaz Khan Road in Nungambakkam with a plant at Hosur, and Sundram Fasteners, which has its head office in Mylapore and makes fasteners at Padi.
The city has an older financial and industrial base as well. Indian Bank, founded in 1907, has its corporate office on Avvai Shanmugam Salai in Royapettah, and Indian Overseas Bank, founded in 1937, has its central office on Anna Salai. Sundaram Finance has been registered at 21 Patullos Road since it was incorporated in 1954. Ashok Leyland and MRF, both started in the 1940s, are also based here.
Services and technology companies make up the newer part of the list. Apollo Hospitals Enterprise, incorporated in 1979, has its general office and a hospital on Greams Road, and Sun TV Network is based at Murasoli Maran Towers in MRC Nagar. Zoho has its headquarters at Estancia IT Park on GST Road in Chengalpattu district, on the southern edge of the metropolitan area.
